What Is Trenchless Sewer Repair and How Does It Work?

If sewer repairs are on your mind, you may have visions of your yard being torn up for a long stretch of time. With trenchless sewer repairs, however, it is a very different story. This form of repair involves very little digging, which makes it far less invasive, and your driveway and landscaping are spared in the process. If you are putting off needed sewer line repairs as a means of avoiding a lot of digging, the time has come to act. Discuss your plumbing needs with an experienced Pennsylvania sewer repair pro at American Sewer Specialist today.

Trenchless Sewer Repair

The traditional method of making sewer line repairs is digging a trench that exposes the entire pipe. This allows plumbing specialists to work on the sewer line directly. With trenchless sewer repairs, however, extensive digging is not required, and you can expect your yard to experience minimal disturbance. As a result, your landscaping, gardens, sidewalks, and driveway will all be left intact. This makes the process less time-consuming, less costly, and far less disruptive for you and your family.

How Trenchless Sewer Repairs Work

When a trenchless sewer repair is used, the sewer repair pros skip the trench and, instead, drill small access points at both ends of the damaged section of pipe. From here, there are several basic steps forward.

Camera Inspection

To begin, the problem with the sewer line is identified by sending a camera through it that captures a high-def view of its interior. The kinds of problems that are frequently spotted include:

Hydro-Jetting

At this point, the pipe is thoroughly cleaned. This involves the use of hydro-jetting to scour the pipe’s interior of scale and blockages.

Repair Work

Next comes the repair work itself, which breaks down into two primary forms.

Pipe Lining

Pipe lining involves inserting a cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) into the existing pipe. This is an epoxy-coated flexible tube that’s inflated once it’s in place, which causes the epoxy resin to coat the pipe walls. After the epoxy cures, it creates a new jointless pipe within the old pipe.

Pipe Bursting

Pipe bursting involves pulling a new pipe through the damaged pipe. In the process, the old pipe is broken apart, and you’re left with a new pipe in its place.

Final Testing

Finally, the integrity of the new pipe is tested by snaking the camera back through and confirming that the new liner or pipe is ready to perform.
